The phrase on the button “Women Make Policy Not Coffee” is a quote from Betty Friedan, in her work, The Feminine Mystique.   Friedan’s novel The Feminine Mystique was a controversial bestseller in 1964 and was said to have been a catalyst for the Feminist Movement. The phrase “Women make policy not coffee” was a phrase used in the book that reflects the bigger theme of women having agency beyond being housewives and working in the kitchen at home. The novel sparked a large amount of controversy at the time, but  led to many great ideas and theories that were helpful on the front for Women's Rights.
