Joel Pollack was a Republican congressional nominee in Illinois’ 9th district in 2010. While Pollack was born in South Africa, he was raised in Skokie, Illinois. Pollack lost the congressional race, garnering only half as many votes as his Democratic opponent Janice Schakowsky. After his loss, Pollack took the role as editor-in-chief at Breitbart News, a far-right news outlet. Breitbart had 16 million unique visitors in 2016 making it the most-read conservative news site at the time.
