Faubud

I found this button in a thrift store and was wondering what year and if he was running for senator?

This seems to be a button for him running for Governor - this may be an interesting resource for you: https://ualrexhibits.org/legacy/faubus/

Hi Sheila,

Thanks for the question! Though the exact year is a mystery, this button was used to promote Orval Faubus, who served as the 36th Governor of Arkansas between 1955 and 1967. Faubus never sought any other political position outside of his role as Governor of Arkansas. Serving as a Democrat, Faubus is best remembered for his involvement in the Little Rock crisis of 1957. In a stand against desegregation, Faubus ordered the Arkansas National Guard to prevent black students from attending Little Rock Central High School. Though Faubus maintained that he did so only to prevent violence from breaking out, the incident tarnished Faubus's reputation as a progressive candidate. Let us know if you have any further questions!
