Burnie was a mascot for Union Oil's 76 Heating Oil. Union Oil Company of California, now known as Unocal Corporation, was founded in 1890. Worldwide, the corporation is involved in the exploration, production, refining, and marketing of crude oil, natural gas, and petroleum products. Chevron Corporation bought Unocal in 2005.
