The year 1965 is significant for civil rights, beginning with the march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama led by Martin Luther King, Jr. Just months later, the Voting Rights Act secured African Americans the right to vote by constitutional amendment. Civil Rights leaders, including Martin Luther King, Jr. were present when President Lyndon Johnson signed the groundbreaking law.
