Additional Information:

Russell Peterson’s 1960s Republican campaign for Governor was against the incumbent Governor Charles L. Terry, Jr.. Peterson was a huge environmentalist. Peterson was the first to appoint a person of color to the board of trustees at the University of Delaware and he also insisted on the hiring of African Americans within the State Police department. This was during a time of unrest after riots had emerged from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.s assassination.
