The Philadelphia 76ers, also known as the Sixers, is an American basketball team that was founded in 1946. They are established in the Philadelphia metropolitan area and are one of the oldest franchises in the NBA. The name comes from the signing of the Declaration of Independence in Philadelphia in 1776. Many Hall of Fame players have played for the team and they have won three championships.
