Additional Information

Pennsylvania State University's team is the Nittany Lions, named after the lions that used to roam the area and Mount Nittany, a local landmark. Established in 1887, the Nittany Lions have won two national championships (in 1982 and 1986), three Big Ten Conference Championships (in 1994, 2005 and 2008), and have made 45 appearances in college bowl games.

The 1983 Sugar Bowl featured the second-ranked Penn State Nittany Lions, and the top-ranked Georgia Bulldogs. Penn State won 27-23, to win the national championship, and finished number one in the polls.
