Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush ran in the 1980 presidential election. They defeated Democratic nominees Jimmy Carter and Walter Mondale, and Independent nominees John B. Anderson and Patrick Lucey to become the 40th President and the 43rd Vice President of the United States, respectively. After their first term, Reagan and Bush ran a successful reelection campaign in 1984 and were reelected for a second term. The state of Michigan voted for the pair in both elections.
