With an estimated 200-300 units sold worldwide, Led Zeppelin is one of the best-selling music groups of all time. The London based rock band was active between 1968-1980 and disbanded mainly due to the death of their drummer John Bonham in 1980. The band’s name came about supposedly due to previous members of the original Yardbirds group commenting that any band that included Page and Beck (Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page and Yardbirds guitarist Jeff Beck) would go down like a “lead balloon”. Then band members Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones, John Bonham and Robert Plant dropped the “a” out of “lead” and changed “balloon” to “zeppelin” and in November 1968 signed a contract with Atlantic Records as Led Zeppelin. The band released nine albums overall and while there are many well known singles, perhaps their best-known is “Stairway to Heaven”. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995.
