| Additional Information | The American Veterinary Medical Association was founded in 1898, with roots of the organization dating back to 1863. The Associates states its mission, "to lead the profession by advocating for our members, and advancing the science and practice of veterinary medicine to improve animal and human health". The 1987 conference for the Association was held in Chicago, with celebrity dog Benji in attendance (who was issued the first dog and cat insurance policy from the Animal Health Insurance Agency at the conference), and included displays such as pet burial kits.
