Additional Information

The American Medical Association was founded in 1847 on the premise of promoting public health by representing both physicians and patients. The Code of Medical Ethics lays out the core values of the medical profession and was adopted at the organization’s founding meeting in the same year. The AMA helped to represent the American public against Nazi doctors during the Nuremberg Trials. They are also responsible for making annual physical checkups mainstream, having introduced the idea in 1922 to promote public health.
