Additional Information

This humorous slogan references three famous movie characters who had some iteration of father issues. The verbs and pronouns change with each character’s relationship to a father, contrasting the characters and drawing light to their situations.

Inigo Montoya is a character from William Goldman’s 1973 novel The Princess Bride. The button displays one of the character’s most famous quotes and uses its format for two other well known characters. Lamont Cranston is the alter ego of the titular character of the popular radio show “The Shadow,” which first debuted in 1930. This character would later be an influence for the creators of Batman, with Lamont Cranston and the Shadow as the inspiration for Bruce Wayne and the Batman. The bottom third of the button references the scene in the 1980 Star Wars film The Empire Strikes Back in which Darth Vader reveals to Luke Skywalker that he did not kill his father. In a shocking and now famous twist, Darth Vader tells Luke “I am your father,” Anakin Skywalker.
