Ronald Reagan was an actor and a politician who served as the 40th President of the United States from 1981 to 1989. In 1982, Reagan reversed his position on the draft policy, angering leaders of the anti-draft movement. The President ordered the draft registration program to be extended indefinitely after he originally denounced the revival of the program under President Carter two years earlier. The ACLU condemned the move and pointed out that the government had already wasted millions of dollars trying to enforce a law that the President wanted to abolish.
